Salomon Speedcross CS 3 Review
I have flat, wide and easily miserable feet. There are no shoes I've worn before that doesn't hurt my feet. But until Salomon Speedcross CS 3, they are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. Synthetic mesh linings featured in the shoes enhance comfort and at the same time wick moisture away from feet. I can even wear them all day without normal problems like sore feet or bad smell.
Fit and sizing
They fit like a glove and the first time I wore them I had no blisters. I think they run true to what I experience with other Salomon shoes. I have wide feet so I ordered half size up and had a perfect fit. Runners who have narrow feet only need to order their normal size. They are roomy in the forefoot and snug in the midfoot for secured fit when running on uneven terrains. Besides, these shoes are still wide enough for me to add my inserts for much more arch support.
In terms of cushioning, many runners complained that Salomon Speedcross CS 3 is not for running on pavement since they don’t have much cushioning for much impact activities. However, I still feel them have enough cushioning for me to perform well on trails and not too much pounding from the rocks. They have plenty of cushioning, especially in the heel area which is suitable for runners who prefer to heel strike.
Generally, Salomon Speedcross CS 3 trail shoes come with a lot of supportive features. They give me enough arch and ankle support. While I often had hurt back and feet, especially plantar fasciitis and cuboid syndrome over the last couple years with my old shoes, these help me deal with those. My friend has some pronation and they have worked wonders for her! The forefoot has been decreased by up to 50 percent, which means you can hopefully gain a much more controlled ride to reduce the risks of twisting ankle.
I sometimes wear them in the gym and realize that they have great stability for squats and leg presses. The sole is very stable and rigid which forces you to have better running form with either a forefoot or midfoot strike. Dual-density EVA padding midsole gives excellent stability. Additionally, the heel is lower and wider on the sole area, also providing a greater contact surface as well as more natural stability.
I appreciate that they are completely enclosed which keeps my feet dry from rain and puddles, and even sand or debris can’t get into the shoes. But that also means they aren't so breathable. For that reason, I only wear them in colder weather.
I thought the rubber soles would wear out quickly but I have used them to run on trails and walk on rocks for several months without any signs of wear or tear. The shoes also have some protective features from the upper to the outsole to protect them from debris on the runs. I can say that these are the most comfortable and durable shoes I've ever owned.
Grip and traction
The tread of these is perfect in providing grip and traction for them to work well on a variety of surfaces, especially hiking on trails. You will be impressed by the amazing grip when running on rocks, ice, loose dirt or slippery surfaces and good traction on sand.
The use of lightweight material in the upper contributes to make the shoes lighter and faster than they appear. I often run for long distances in them without feeling any heaviness. Because of that, they are also very great to be used as racing shoes.
The colors are quite different compared to the website but still very nice and eye catching. This makes me want to wear these shoes not only for running but for usual wear as well. I love them so much that I bought 3 pairs of Speedcross CS 3 in different colors.
Salomon Speedcross CS 3 is a lightweight and perfect shoe for hiking, walking, running, racing and even rock climbing. Furthermore, with the great traction, I can also handle any trail with ease. You can use them in the gym or for cross training, too.
